
Walkup Named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Junior Thomas Walkup has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
The weekly honor is the first for Walkup and the Stephen F. Austin men’s basketball team this season and the second during his SFA career.
The native of Pasadena, Texas, was a dominant offensive threat in leading the ‘Jacks to a 2-0 road record on the week. Walkup averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds in wins over Central Arkansas (109-58) and Abilene Christian (82-64) to help SFA improve to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.
At UCA, Walkup finished with 20 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor and hitting a career-high 10 free throws. He also added a career-best six assists, three rebounds and a steal against the Bears.
Walkup then followed with a career-best 30 points at ACU. In that game, he hit over 80 percent of his shots, finishing 14-of-17 from the floor with two 3-pointers and repeated with six assists across 31 minutes played.
In two games, Walkup shot 70.4 percent (19-for 27) from the field.
Walkup and the ‘Jacks host New Orleans tonight in a 7 p.m. tip inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
