QUICK NOTES
• The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team will host New Orleans for the first time since the 2008-09 season when the two teams square off on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. Rand Champion will have the call on Q107.7 FM (Q1077.com) when the Ladyjacks take the court.
• Thursday night's contest will be the fifth meeting all-time between the two programs. The series is tied 2-2 but SFA has had the last laugh. Last season, the Ladyjacks won 68-36 in New Orleans behind 22 points and eight rebounds from Porsha Roberts.
• The Ladyjacks are coming off their best team victory of the season - a 73-46 thumping of Central Arkansas in Conway last Thursday night. SFA shot a sizzling 83.3 percent (10-for-12) from three-point range and played smothering defense in the team's first win in Conway since the 2009-10 season. Porsha Roberts picked up two early fouls and sat out most of the first half. With their leading scorer on the bench, the Ladyjacks mounted a 17-0 run near the end of the half and took a commanding 47-23 lead into the break. All 10 Ladyjacks who played in the game scored at least two points to step up in Roberts' absence.
• Sophomore guard Brentney Branch exploded off the bench for a career-high 23 points to lead SFA's lethal three-point attack against the Sugar Bears last Thursday. She hit all five of her shots from deep, went 8-for-10 overall from the floor and 2-for-3 from the free throw line. The Houston native poured in 16 points in the first half alone, including several threes from well beyond the arc. After the huge performance, Branch now ranks 10th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (46.4).
• In two conference games this season, Porsha Roberts is averaging 18.0 ppg, 10.3 rpg, is shooting 58.8 percent (20-for-34) from the floor, and leads SFA with eight blocks and two double-doubles.
• New Orleans, picked to finish 13th in both of the SLC preseason polls, and Abilene Christian, picked to finish eighth in the league, have yet to win a conference game this year. The Privateers don't have a single player averaging double figures while the Wildcats have five players who average at least 10.6 points per game so far in 2014-15.
• The Ladyjacks will hit the road on Friday afternoon to get ready for a Saturday game against Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. The men's team will play at 11:00 a.m. as part of an SLC doubleheader.
