Full 2014-15 Schedule
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head women’s basketball coach Brandon Schneider announced the release of the 2014-15 schedule for the co-defending Southland Conference champion Ladyjacks on Tuesday morning. The schedule includes16 contests inside William R. Johnson Coliseum and non-conference games against Baylor, Arizona and Louisiana Tech.
“Our non-conference schedule is the most challenging we've faced since I've been part of the program,” Schneider said. “We're excited our fans will have the opportunity to see us play multiple times in November and wrap up the first semester with two BCS opponents in Baylor and Arizona.”
SFA will play its season opener with Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Nov. 15, the first game for new Lady Techsters head coach Tyler Summit, son of legendary Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summit.
The home match with La. Tech kicks off a four-game homestand to open the season, with visits from Prairie View A&M (Nob. 18), Louisiana-Monroe (Nov. 21) and St. Edward’s (Nov. 25) to follow.
Following the homestand, the Ladyjacks will play their road opener, taking part in the University of Mexico Thanksgiving Classic across November 28-9. SFA is one of four teams participating in the tournament, joined by host New Mexico, Boston University and UC-Riverside. The Ladyjacks will play UC-Riverside on Friday, Nov. 28, with BU and UNM meeting in the other game on the day. Saturday’s pairings will be dependent on the outcomes of Friday.
SFA will open the month of November with a home meeting against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday, Dec.2, before two consecutive road trips to Rice (Dec. 6) and Baylor (Dec. 14). The trip to play the Bears marks a homecoming game for senior center Porsha Roberts, a native of Waco, Texas. BU advanced to the Elite Eight last season in the NCAA Tournament, ending the season ranked fifth in the Associated Press Poll and sixth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Following the BU trip, SFA returns to Nacogdoches for two home games. The Ladyjacks host Arizona on Saturday, Dec. 20, before playing Southern Arkansas on Wednesday, Dec. 31, to close out the 2014 calendar year.
The Southland adopted a new conference schedule entering the 2014-15 season, with SFA playing conference games on Thursdays and Saturdays, given one Monday in conference play.
SFA opens SLC action at McNeese State on Saturday, Jan. 3. The Ladyjacks also face Central Arkansas (Jan. 8), Abilene Christian (Jan. 17), Lamar (Jan. 22) and Sam Houston State (Jan. 24) on the road, hosting Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 5), New Orleans (Jan. 15) and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (Jan. 31) in the month of January.
SFA opens the month of February at Northwestern State on Thursday, Feb. 5. The Ladyjacks follow with a home visit from Houston Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 7, before playing two consecutive road games at Incarnate Word (Feb. 12) and TAMUCC (Feb. 14).
SFA closes its regular season with five of its last six games inside WRJ Coliseum. The Ladyjacks, after hosting LU (Feb. 19), Nicholls (Feb. 21) and UIW (Feb. 26), close their road schedule at HBU on Saturday, Feb. 28, before wrapping up conference play with NWST (Mar. 5) and SHSU (Mar. 7) at home.
The 2015 SLC Basketball Tournament will once again be held at Leonard E. Merrell Center from March 11-14. The top eight teams will qualify for the league tournament, with the champion earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
