BRYAN, Texas - Stephen F. Austin freshman Erica Lautensack made sure her first collegiate round would be a memorable one, recording the first hole-in-one in SFA program history during the opening round of the 2014 Texas A&M "Mo"morial.
Lautensack carded the hole-in-one on the par-three 11th hole at Traditions Club, connecting from 155 yards out. The shot helped Lautensack to an 8-over 80 through the opening round, sitting tied for 49th overall.
As a team, the Ladyjacks currently sit eighth among the stacked 11-team field, firing a 19-over 307 through the opening 18 holes. The 307 is four shots better than the 311 average SFA posted in 2013-14, the best scoring average in team history.
Junior Mackenzie Steiner is leading the way for SFA, shooting an even-par 72 through the opening 18 holes and is tied for fifth among the individual leaderboard. She holds a three shot lead on freshman Jamee Jorgensen, who carded a 3-over 75 in her first collegiate round and is tied for 16th overall.
Sophomores Ann Holcomb and Jessica White join Lautensack in a three-way tie for third on the SFA scorecard as the trio each fired an 8-over 80 through the opening day of competition.
SFA sits firmly in eighth-place, holding a three-stroke lead over ninth-place Troy (22-over 310) and is four shots better than 10th-place Louisiana Monroe (23-over 311). The Ladyjacks trail both host Texas A&M and TCU who are tied for sixth overall with a 15-over 303.
Auburn leads the field after round one with a 3-over 291, holding a three-stroke lead on Houston (6-over 294) and is five shots better than third-place Florida State (8-over 296). Kentucky (10-over 298) and UT-San Antonio (11-over 299) round out the top-five.
Tuesday's second round gets underway at 8 a.m. as the Ladyjacks will match up with TCU and Troy in the second round pairings, teeing off from hole 10. Live scoring is available at
