MONROE, La. - Stephen F. Austin has completed two rounds at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational, sitting eighth among the 13-team field with 36 holes in the books. The Ladyjacks posted a 58-over 634 through the first two rounds at Bayou Desiard, sitting just two strokes back of a sixth-place tie.
SFA opened up the event with a 33-over 321 over the opening 18 holes, ending round one tied for eighth overall. The Ladyjacks would respond over the afternoon session, shaving eight strokes off their opening round score to post a 25-over 313, the seventh-best score of the round, maintaining its eighth-place position.
Freshman Erica Lautensack had a strong opening round for the Ladyjacks, shooting a 6-over 78 as she was the only SFA golfer to crack 80 in the opening round. Lautensack matched that score in round two, sitting at 12-over 156 through 36 holes and is tied for 18th in the individual standings.
There is a familiar face joining Lautensack in the 18th-place tie as sophomore Ann Holcomb fired a 3-over 75 in the afternoon round, shaving six strokes off her opening round 81. She sits at 12-over 156 as well as the duo has a seven stroke edge on junior Mackenzie Steiner, who carded a 19-over 163 (81-82) on day one.
Sophomore Jessica White is one shot back of Steiner after posting a 20-over 164, responding with a 6-over 78 in round two after struggling with a 14-over 86 in round one. Sophomore Courtney Ford rounds out the Ladyjack scorecard with a 24-over 168 (81-87).
SFA enters Tuesday's final round with a three-shot lead over Southland Conference rival McNeese State (61-over 637) with Western Texas C.C. (67-over 643) rounding out the top-10. The Ladyjacks remain well within striking distance of a pair of teams as SLC foe Central Arkansas and McLennan C.C. both sit two strokes ahead of SFA with a 56-over 632.
Host Louisiana-Monroe holds the team lead after 36 holes with a 31-over 607, maintaining a slim three stroke advantage on second-place Arkansas-Little Rock (34-over 610). Rival Sam Houston State (35-over 611) is third with SLC foe Houston Baptist (43-over 619) and Oklahoma City (49-over 625) rounding out the top-five.
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. as the Ladyjacks will team up with McLennan C.C. and McNeese State in the final round pairings. Full results will be posted as they become available at SFAJacks.com.
