FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin junior libero OJ Olson was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the season for Olson and comes on the heels of a 4-0 week for SFA.
Olson, a native of Cedar Park, Texas (Leander HS), captained the Ladyjack backline, racking up 93 digs across 16 sets. She averaged 5.81 digs per set in helping SFA down Louisiana-Monroe (3-2), New Orleans (3-0), Texas-Pan American (3-1) and Louisiana Tech (3-1), across a four-day period.
Olson recorded 29 digs for the Ladyjacks in their 3-2 comeback win over ULM on Wednesday night, before digging up 18 against UNO, 25 against UTPA and 21 against LA Tech, to earn MVP honors at the Louisiana Tech Fairfield Inn Volleyball Invitational.
Olson and SFA held the opposition to .110 attack percentage on the week.
The Ladyjacks will return to action on Friday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Houston for the Rice Invitational. The team will open tournament play against Louisville at 12:30 p.m. before facing Texas Southern and host Rice across the two-day event.
