NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team is set to open the 2014 season, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for matches with Michigan, Arkansas and Tennessee State, as part of the Arkansas Invitational.
SFA will face Michigan in the tournament opener, in a 4 p.m. match inside Barnhill Arena on Friday. The Ladyjacks will then turn around and play two on Saturday, playing host Arkansas at 11 a.m. on the SEC Network, before closing out with Tennessee State at 4:30 p.m.

• SFA vs. Michigan - SFA and the Wolverines will be meeting for the first time on the hardwood when the two teams take the floor on Friday.
• Scouting MICH - The Wolverines are coming off an 18-14 campaign in 2013, finishing with an 8-12 record in Big Ten play. MICH is led by preseason All-Big Ten player Lexi Dannemiller. The Wolverines are picked to finish eighth in the conference.
• SFA vs. Arkansas - SFA and the Razorbacks have met three times dating back to 1996, with Arkansas holding a 3-0 edge. The Razorbacks defeated the Ladyjacks 3-1 (9/20/96), 3-0 (11/2/98) and 3-2 (9/1/06), with their last meeting coming in 2006.
• Scouting ARK - The Razorbacks are coming off a 16-14 campaign in 2013, finishing 9-9 in SEC play and earning an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Arkansas, picked to finish seventh in the SEC Preseason Coaches' poll, returns 11 letterwinners, including Meredith Hayes, who was an AVCA All-Region selection. Hayes averaged 3.94 kills and 2.30 digs per set. Ana Sofi Jusino led the Razorbacks with 89 total blocks, while Summer Morgan recorded 78 blocks.
• SFA vs. Tennessee State - SFA and the Tigers have met once, with the Ladyjacks prevailing 3-1 in 2006.
• Scouting TSU - The Tigers are coming off a 10-18 campaign in 2013, finishing with a 6-10 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. TSU returns five starters, plus the libero, and seven letterwinners from a season ago. Naomi Wells led the Tigers with 3.57 kills per set, also averaging 2.67 digs a set. Sherryce Butler led the Tigers with 77 total blocks, while Erika Moss led with 24 service aces.
• Tabbed Fifth In SLC - SFA was picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference in polls conducted by the league's coaches and sports information directors, the conference office announced Thursday, Aug. 21. The Ladyjacks earned 103 votes in the SID poll and 99 points in the coaches poll.
• Preseason All-SLC - The Ladyjacks placed juniors Jill Ivy and OJ Olson on the preseason all-conference first team, the Southland Conference office announced Wednesday, Aug. 20. Both Ivy and Olson were second-team all-conference selections last season for SFA
