NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin Athletic Director Robert Hill today announced that SFA head women’s basketball coach Brandon Schneider has agreed to a new five-year extension, keeping him at the helm of the Ladyjacks through the 2018-19 season.
“It was important to us that we keep coach Schneider as our head coach,” Hill said. “Our women’s basketball program is in great hands and will only get better. We have a shared vision for the future that will include many more championships.”
"I'm grateful that our administration and board of regents supports and believes in the direction our program is headed," Schneider said. "We are proud of what has been accomplished and look forward to a promising future."
Schneider has compiled a 72-58 record in four seasons in Nacogdoches, including a 41-27 mark in Southland Conference play. This past year, Schneider’s Ladyjacks compiled a 23-13 record and rallied to win its final six games of the regular season, overcoming a five game deficit to secure a share of the SLC title – its first since 2010 and 16th overall.
SFA advanced to the championship game of the SLC Tournament in Katy, then accepted an invitation to participate in the Women’s Basketball Invitational. The Ladyjacks knocked off Texas State and Boise State at home before besting College of Charleston in South Carolina to advance to the title game, falling to Illinois-Chicago in the Windy City.
Under Schneider’s tutelage in 2013-14, junior Porsha Roberts was named the SLC’s Defensive Player of the Year, becoming SFA’s all-time block leader in the process. Tierany Henderson also picked up honorable mention All-SLC honors for her performance on the season.
The 23 victories in 2013-14 matched the output of Schneider’s 2011-12 team as SFA advanced to the SLC Tournament championship game. That season, Roberts was tabbed as the SLC’s Freshman of the Year.
Named the Ladyjacks’ head coach on April 20, 2010, Schneider brought with him an impressive resume, which included a highly successful 12-year stint at Emporia State. Schneider guided the Lady Hornets to a 306-72 record, including 11 NCAA tournament appearances while capturing the 2010 NCAA Division II national championship. He currently remains the second all-time winningest coach at the Division II level.
