
SFA Lands Seven on SLC All-Academic Team

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - This week the Southland Conference recognized some of its top student-athletes in track and field, naming its 2014 Cross Country and Track and Field All-Academic Team. Seven members of the Stephen F. Austin squad made the grade and earned the accolades from the conference office.
Josh Taylor was named to the men's team with his 3.30 GPA in finance and his victory in the 400 meter hurdles at the Southland Conference Championship last month. It was Taylor's second appearance on the all-academic team.
The Ladyjacks had six members named to the SLC All-Academic Team to rank second among other schools in the league.
Heather McPherson was named to the all-academic team for a third time in her career, making the list every year she was eligible during her career. McPherson graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in political science and recently received the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship from the Southland Conference.
Rebecca Blubaugh and Jessica Cunningham each were named to the SLC All-Academic Team for the second time in their careers. Blubaugh holds a 3.92 GPA in food and nutrition dietetics. Cunningham carries a 3.96 GPA in social work.
Sophomore Bria McIver was recognized by the league for her perfect 4.0 GPA in fashion merchandising. McIver finished eighth at the conference championship meet in the 100 meter hurdles last month.
Brarysheyia Simpson ran her way to a handful of second-place finishes at the Southland Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships to earn her first academic all-conference honor with her 3.22 GPA in psychology.
Shambrail Woods rounded out the academic acclaim for SFA with the first honor of her career. Woods earned an automatic selection as the conference indoor champion in the pentathlon and outdoor champion in the heptathlon with a 3.35 GPA in kinesiology.
