USTFCCCA All-America Teams
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – With the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field season coming to a conclusion, the USTFCCCA released its All-America teams on Monday, and Stephen F. Austin came away with seven honors.
Receiving first team honors was Josh Taylor for his seventh-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Taylor ran a time of 53.03 seconds in the final and ran 50.58 during the semifinals. With his finish he scored two points for the Lumberjacks to mark the second time in school history SFA’s men have scored points in back-to-back years at the NCAA Championship.
Four of SFA’s All-America awards went to the 4x400 meter relay team. The combination of Hampton Hawkins, Torin Crowder, Cass Brown-Stewart and Taylor finished in 11th place with a time of 3:06.91 in the semifinal to receive second team honors. The finish improved on their 21st-place finish from a year ago and narrowly missed making the final.
Brown-Stewart also received second team honors individually. He ran 46.20 seconds in the semifinals of the 400 meters to place 14th.
Colton Ross rounded out SFA’s All-America recognitions with his 10th-place finish in the pole vault to make the second team. Ross cleared a height of 5.40 meters (17-8.50) to give SFA two top 10 finishes at the meet.
Long jumper Jamal Peden finished in 23rd place and received honorable mention from the USTFCCCA.
Student-athletes were honored by the USTFCCCA for their performances at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Eugene, Oregon.
First-Team All-America honors were awarded to those who finished among the top eight in an individual or relay event as part of a team; Second-Team All-America honors went to those who finished between ninth and 16th; and honorable mention honors were given to the remaining finishers.
