NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After falling behind 5-1 in the first inning at Texas Southern, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were able to right ship and rally from behind for a 10-6 victory.
The Ladyjacks scored four runs in the seventh to get the victory and take a 4-game winning streak into this weekend’s series at Sam Houston State.
SFA (22-24) was led at the plate by leadoff hitter Alisa Hamilton with a strong 4-for-4 performance and two RBI. Carlie Thomas got her 15th win of the season coming in to relive Brittany Lewis in the bottom of the fifth.
Trailing 5-2 in the third inning, the Ladyjacks battled back with three runs to tie it up 5-5 thanks to Brittany Lee grabbing the momentum by stealing home plate to make it 5-3. Elizabeth Arana and Lindsay Campbell would also score for the Ladyjacks to tie the ballgame.
Both teams added a run in the sixth to knot the score 6-6, and then SFA blew up in the final inning with four runs to take the 10-6 lead.
In the seventh, the bottom of the lineup came up big for the Ladyjacks. Arana started the inning with a wlak and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. After Shalie Day walked as a pinch hitter, the Ladyjacks had two on and only one out. A single by Charlotte Singleton plated Arana to take the lead.
An error by the second baseman allowed the Ladyjacks to keep rolling in the seventh as three more runs would score to take the 10-6 lead.
The Ladyjacks hit the road this weekend to close the regular season against rival Sam Houston Sate. SFA is currently tied for third place in the Southland Conference standings and 2.5 games behind Sam Houston State. The Ladyjacks are fighting for one of the six spots in the Southland Conference Tournament with McNeese State and Sam Houston State the only two teams guaranteed a spot heading into the final weekend of the season.
