
Ross Named Conference Field Athlete of the Week

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Up against the best athletes in the nation in his event, Stephen F. Austin pole vaulter Colton Ross finished second at the prestigious Clyde Little Field Texas Relays and was recognized on Wednesday as the Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Ross cleared a height of 5.05 meters (18-00.50) on his second attempt to finish second in a special invitational competition at the Texas Relays this weekend. He and defending NCAA champion Sam Kendricks were the only competitors in the field to clear 5.05 meters on their first attempts, and Kendricks went on to clear two more bars for the win.
With his mark of 5.05 meters, Ross is currently tied for third in the NCAA this season and was just one centimeter shy of his personal record.
Ross along with the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will be in action at home this upcoming weeked as SFA Track and Field will host its only home meet of the season.
The Skechers Carl Kight Invitational begins at 4 p.m. Friday with three field events in the hammer throw, long jump and men’s pole vault. A distance carnival set for a 7:30 p.m. start Friday.
The meet will begin Day 2 of action at 9 a.m. Saturday with more field events and running events are slated to start at 3 p.m. Tickets to the Skechers Carl Kight Invitational are $5 to see SFA and 17 other teams in action.
