AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season in a 5-2 victory over St. Edwards on Saturday at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.
"Another great match win today for us, as we continue to grow as a team, head coach Roberto Aspillaga said. "We are becoming stronger by the way we are competing and coming together as a group every day. I am exited about Sunday's match at Texas State."
The SFA (2-3) tandem of Kateryna Bugayenko and Valeria Terentyeva defeated Breanne Hesseltine and Tatiana Marchizsno of SEU (1-3) 8-1 and the tandem of Denise Maxl and Laura Servise won their match 8-4 to give the Ladyjacks the doubles point and 1-0 lead over the Hilltoppers.
In singles play, Malena Gordo, Julia Lorca, Bugayenko and Terentyeva, each won their match to seal the victory for SFA. Maxl dropped a hard fought match with SEU's Brooke Hughs 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) and Breanne Hesseltine beat senior Servise by default.
The Ladyjacks will have a quick turnaround for Sunday, Feb. 23, heading to San Marcos for a 12:00 p.m. start with Texas State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
