
SFA Sits Fourth After Two Rounds in Houston

HOUSTON – Stephen F. Austin had another solid day at the 2014 Sam Houston State Kat Klash, posting a 5-1 record on the day and sitting fourth among the team standings.
Competing in traditional matches, SFA opened up the day hosting McKendree and taking a 952-847 victory, led by senior Chelsea King’s 213. Freshman Stephanie Schwartz also eclipsed the 200-pin mark, bowling a 204 in the win.
Round two pitted the Ladyjacks against Adelphi as SFA prevailed 883-839, paced by Schwartz’s 201. The Ladyjacks then recorded a big victory over Texas Southern, defeating the Tigers 1,014-834. Four Ladyjacks went over 200 for the match, led by 218 from Paige Kraushaar, a 205 from freshman Kelsi Anderson and a 204 from Schwartz.
SFA kept its winning streak going, routing Grambling 949-645 as King posted a 203 and Anderson added a 202. That winning streak hit 11 matches as the Ladyjacks reached 1,000 pins for the second time, defeating Jackson State 1,001-804, paced by Kraushaar’s 221.
The final match of the day saw SFA suffer its first defeat of the event, falling to Nebraska 998-977. Schwartz was the high bowler for the Ladyjacks, recording a day-high 244 with King adding a 226.
Schwartz finished sixth in the individual standings, bowling a 208.33 average over the six matches of the day. King also finished among the top-20, placing 17th with a 197.83 average for the Ladyjacks.
Heading into Sunday’s final round, SFA is fourth in the team standings with an 11-1 mark and a 196.5 average. Arkansas State currently sits atop the team standings at 10-2 with a 201.7 average, followed by Central Missouri (199.2) and Nebraska (196.9).
Sunday’s final round features the baker-style bracket play as SFA opens up the day facing the Cornhuskers in the opening round. SFA looks to notch its fourth top-10 finish of the season as full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
