NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Stephen F. Austin stumbled over the final day of the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree, dropping all three bracket matches to finish sixth. SFA does notch its second top-10 finish of the season, placing in the top-six at both tournaments of the 2014-15 season to date.
Entering the day fourth in the team standings, SFA matched up against fifth-ranked Vanderbilt and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Commodores (186-184, 232-193). But Vandy rebounded to win the next four games, defeating the Ladyjacks 4-2 as SFA couldn’t reach the 200-pin mark in any of the last four matches.
SFA then went up against top-ranked Arkansas State in the second round, dropping the first two games to the Red Wolves. The Ladyjacks responded to edge out Arkansas State 203-202 in game three, but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 220-201 and 191-188 in the final two games.
That put SFA in the fifth-place bracket, facing eighth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in the final match of the day. But the Ladyjacks failed to win a game against the Warhawks, falling in four to close out the tournament in sixth-place among the 26-team field.
Up next for SFA is a trip to Maryland, competing in the Maryland-Eastern Shore Classic in two weeks. The three-day event kicks off Friday, Nov. 14, before wrapping up on Sunday, Nov. 16.
