Track and Field Competes in Purple/White Meet

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA men’s and women’s track and field teams will be competing in their annual purple and white intrasquad meet around Homer Bryce Stadium from Nov. 17-19. The competitive event allows head coach Phil Olson and the other coaches on staff to evaluate talent prior to the upcoming official indoor season while giving the athletes a chance to experience a high-intensity meet before the real thing in January.
“The purple/white intrasquad meet is our culminating meet of the fall season and it’s a really big competitive effort for us,” Olson said. “After it’s over, we’ll get a pretty good idea who we have on the team, who we’re planning on bringing back in January and basically establishing our indoor squad for 2015.”
On Monday, the men competed in the high jump while both men and women took part in the long jump and javelin throw.
Tuesday will showcase some of the fastest runners in the Southland Conference as both sides send athletes to the 60-meter hurdles, and 60-, 400- and 800- meter runs. Before the teams take to the track, the strength of the squad will be tested with the shot put, kicking things off at 2:30 p.m.
As the meet comes to an end on Wednesday, fans can come cheer on the SFA athletes participating in the pole vault, discus and hammer throw, triple jump and the 4x400 relay. The women’s high jump will get things going on the third and final day starting at 2:00 p.m.
The official indoor season will begin on January 9 as SFA will split to attend the Arkansas Tri-Meet and send its pole vaulters to the Akron Pole Vault Convention in Akron, Ohio.
