NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin quarterback Zach Conque's performance against sixth-ranked McNeese State Saturday night continues to draw in accolades from a handful of organizations.
Conque has been named the National Offensive Player of the Week by two different outlets - College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) and College Sports Madness, while being named the Weekly All-Star at quarterback by College Sporting News. The awards come on the heels of being named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Conque spearheaded the Lumberjack offensive attack against the Cowboys, completing 21 of his 23 passes (91.3%) for 201 yards, no interceptions and three touchdown passes. He threw touchdown passes of 26, 11 and one yard, while also catching a seven yard touchdown pass, accounting for all four of SFA's scores against McNeese State. Conque also rushed 10 times for 31 yards, giving him 239 yards of offense on the night.
The sophomore has settled into his role as the Lumberjacks' signal caller, throwing for 2,125 yards and 11 touchdowns and ranking fourth in the SLC in passing yards per game (212.5) and seventh in passing efficiency (129.7). Conque has proven to be a threat on the ground as well, rushing for 442 yards and 12 touchdowns as he already sits as the all-time rushing touchdown leader in SFA history among quarterbacks.
Conque and the rest of the Lumberjacks continue their quest for an SLC championship and a possible NCAA berth beginning a two-game season-ending home stand this weekend. Up first for SFA is a meeting with former Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian, kicking off Saturday at 3 p.m.
