SFA Third Heading Into Final Round in N.J.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Stephen F. Austin posted a 5-1 mark over the second day of the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree, sitting third in the team standings as the Ladyjacks look to defend their tournament title from 2013.
The Ladyjacks opened up the day with a convincing 1,031-667 victory over Coppin State as four SFA bowlers notched a 200-or better. Freshman Stephanie Schwartz led the way with a 236, followed by senior Chelsea King’s 226 and sophomore Paige Kraushaar tallying an even 200.
Round two pitted SFA against St. Peter’s as the Ladyjacks once again had another convincing win, earning the victory 979-770. King was the high bowler for SFa with a 229 while Kraushaar notched a 213 in the win.
SFA recorded its highest mark of the day in round three, taking down fifth-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore 1,063-1,017 behind sophomore Kiara Grant’s day-high 246, the second-highest score recorded by the Ladyjacks on the afternoon. Schwartz added a 235 with King bowling a 202, helping guide SFA to the victory.
Facing St. Francis (Pa.) in match four, the Ladyjacks eclipsed the 1,000-pin mark for the third time on the day, downing St. Francis 1,041-921. Four Ladyjacks had scores of 200 or better, led by King’s 235, Schwartz’ 211, a 207 from Kraushaar and a 205 from Grant.
SFA stumbled in match five, falling to St. Francis (N.Y.) 1,031-977. King paced the Ladyjacks with a 215 with Schwartz notching a 213 but they were the only two SFA bowlers to reach 200 as SFA fell to 4-1 on the day.
But SFA recovered in match five to close the day on a positive note, defeating Kutztown 1,060-1004. Schwartz bowled the high-game of the day for the Ladyjacks with a 257, followed by a 221 by Kraushaar and a 213 from Grant. King closed out the day with a 204.
For the second-straight tournament, freshman Stephanie Schwartz leads the way in the individual standings with an average of 225.45, besting her nearest competitor by nearly six pins. King currently sits eighth with a 207.36.
Heading into Sunday’s final round, the Ladyjacks are in the championship bracket of the FDU Jamboree for the second straight year. SFA opens up the day facing Vanderbilt in the opening round with host Fairleigh Dickinson and rival Sam Houston State in the bracket as well.
