NACOGDOCHES - With the 2013 football season in the books, Stephen F. Austin has been named the NCAA Statistical Champion for passing offense in 2013. The Lumberjacks led the nation, averaging 389.0 passing yards per game, and set a new school record, surpassing the 362.3 average set by the 1989 squad.
In 12 games this season, SFA threw for 4,668 yards, the second-most in program history behind the 5,435 through 15 games in 1989. Establishing a reputation as one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the country, SFA ranked second nationally in total offense per game as well, averaging 572.0 yards per game, just shy of Eastern Illinois' 589.5 average per game.
It was one of the 11 school records the `Jacks either set or tied during the 2013 campaign as SFA continued to rewrite the program offensive record books. The 2013 football team also took down a handful of records that had stood for a significant portion of time, including three that were set during the 1969 season.
