GAME NOTES: New Mexico State/UTEP

This Week: Following a very competitive weekend in which the Ladyjacks went 0-1-1 against Houston and Arizona State, SFA returns to the pitch this weekend with two road contest out west. The Ladyjacks (2-1-1) will first travel to Las Cruces, NM to face New Mexico St. for the first time in school history. SFA will then head back to El Paso for the end cap of a six-game home streak for the UTEP Miners.
Game 1: at New Mexico State (Scouting Report)
The Aggies (2-2-0) are coming off a weekend in which they went 1-1-0 at the UNLV Nike Invitational. New Mexico State defeated LIU Brooklyn, 1-0 before falling to Portland State, 7-0. Junior forward Layla Todd leads the team with four points and two goals. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Schutter has allowed six goals in 324:22 minutes while making 11 saves. The Aggies have just 18 shots on goal and are averaging a goal per contest.
Game 2: at UTEP (Scouting Report)
SFA has played UTEP six previous time entering Sunday with the Miners leading the series 4-2. The two teams played last season in Nacogdoches and the Ladyjacks came away triumphant with a 1-0 victory. This match is part of the 14th-annual Border Shootout and is co-hosted with New Mexico State. UTEP has outshot their opponents 64-29 and 31-20 in shots on goal. The Miners have scored five of its six goals in the opening half.
Ladyjacks In The Polls: SFA has made some noise in the national polls this season and currently sit No. 7 in the NSCAA Central Regional Poll. The Ladyjacks were previously at No. 4 before their 0-1-1 results this past weekend.
Home Win Streak Snapped: With their 3-1 loss to Arizona St. last Sunday, the Ladyjacks saw their 23 consecutive home match win streak snapped. The streak dated all the way back to the beginning of the 2010 season when SFA fell to UTEP on Sept. 3, 2010 (2-1 OT). The Ladyjacks have not lost a Southland Conference home match since Oct. 11, 2009.
A New Era is Born: On Jan. 28, 2013, former Texas A&M assistant Wally Crittenden was named the eighth Stephen F. Austin head soccer coach in school history. Crittenden replaces Tony Amato who stepped down last December to become the head coach at the University of Arizona. Crittenden has spent the past three seasons in College Station assisting a nationally ranked Texas A&M team that has recorded a combined 52-16-6 (.743) record.
Picked To Click: Once again the Ladyjacks were picked to win the 2013 Southland Conference regular-season championship in polls conducted by the league's coaches and sports information directors. It marks the third consecutive year the Ladyjacks have been selected to finish first in the Southland in either one of the two polls. SFA received 11 first-place votes in both the coaches and SID's polls to earn a total of 143 points in each poll.
#SouthlandStrong: The Ladyjacks have won 19 consecutive regular season Southland Conference matches dating back to the 2010 season and have gone a combined 17-0 the past two seasons.
Title Town: The SFA women's soccer program has brought an unprecedented seven Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 15 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
