NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles rallied late to force overtime and then scored the game-winner in the 100th minute to upset the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks 2-1 in the conference opener Saturday morning.
SFA (5-2-1, 0-1-0) held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the second half after Megan Dunnigan scored her first goal of the season in the 48th minute on a header off a corner kick from Melissa Gaudet.
However, ORU's Megan Giles knotted the score 1-1 in the 74th minute on a strike from 20 yards out over the outstretched arms of SFA goalkeeper Lacey Lee (4-1-0). Then in overtime, Mary-Kate Halsmer ended the match with the game-winning goal off a deflection in front of the net to snap SFA's 19-game conference home win streak, which dated back to 2010.
SFA outshot ORU 14-13 but the Ladyjacks had just two shots on goal. The Ladyjacks also outgained the Golden Eagles in corner kicks, 5-4.
Saturday's match was originally scheduled to be played Friday evening but was postponed due to inclement weather. SFA will now have to regroup quickly and turn around to host Northwestern State Sunday at 1 p.m.
