NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Student-athletes from the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks football team paid a visit to Raguet Elementary Wednesday morning to speak about the importance of education and being apart of team.
Raguet Elementary is actively promoting a comphrehensive model of college readiness to all students from Prek-5th grade. The 'Jacks helped partake in the Jump Start Program, which is designed to expose students to powerful college symbolism. This symbolism is seen in the college flags and banners hung on every door, felt through the close partnerships forged between classrooms and universities, and heard in the college chants that exist at each grade level.
Zoey Rogers, wife of SFA wide receivers coach Troy Rogers, is a teacher at Raguet Elementary and helped arrange the program.
"I think it's fantastic that the players can get out here to Raguet Elementary and the Jump Start Program," Troy Rogers said. "I know the players involved are excited about getting to speak to children and explain to them that in order to achieve success, education is a key building block, and it starts in elemnetary school. The players embrace their position of role models and being able to mentor the children at Raguet is a good start."
