NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team reported for camp Friday, in preparation for the upcoming 2013 season. Sixteen players reported for camp, including six newcomers.
The Ladyjacks will be issued equipment, take a team photo and enjoy a welcome-back dinner Friday evening, before opening up practice on Saturday, Aug. 10, in the Shelton Gym.
SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys enters her 26th season at the helm, as she welcomes six newcomers including five true freshmen and one NCAA transfer.
"We (the coaching staff) are excited to have the girls on campus," Humphreys said. "We look forward to starting practice and preparing for the upcoming season. August 10th has been a day we have been waiting for and we are ready to get going as we get closer to volleyball season."
The Ladyjacks return nine letterwinners from the 2012 season, highlighted by first-team all-Southland Conference outside hitter Jill Ivy. The Katy, Texas, native, led the team and finished sixth in conference with 400 kills, averaging 3.03 per set, and finished second with 96 blocks as a sophomore.
SFA is coming off a 22-12 season and Southland Conference Tournament berth in 2012. The Ladyjacks will open up the 2013 slate on Aug. 30, playing against Troy in the Southern Mississippi Tournament.
SFA will have a seven-game road stretch to open the season before opening up at home on Sept. 10, against Louisiana Tech. The Ladyjacks will have 10 home games in all in 2013.
