Owens Named SLC Defensive Player of Week

FRISCO, Texas - Sophomore Rachel Owens was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The weekly award is Owens' first of her career at SFA.
Owens was part of an SFA defense that pitched consecutive shutouts to start the 2013 season. The sophomore from Houston, Texas (Memorial H.S.), played in all 180 minutes over the weekend and helped limit the Texas State Bobcats to just six shots, only two of which were on goal.
In Friday's 1-0 win at Rice, Owens helped anchor an SFA defense that stood strong against the Owls' aggressive offensive attack to preserve the shutout.
The Ladyjacks (2-0) will next be in action this Friday when they return to the city of Houston to face the University of Houston Friday evening at 7 p.m. That match will be followed by a Sunday home game at 1 p.m. against Arizona State.
