NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Now that the school year is over, and before we begin the 2013-14 academic year, SFA athletics wanted to take a look back at the Top 25 Moments from the 2012-13 season.
No. 4
This past summer, for just the second time in school history, Stephen F. Austin was represented at the summer Olympics when midfielder Kylie Louw represented her native South Africa national soccer team in London.
Take a look back at Kylie's experience with her 2012 London Olympic Blog
Undoubtedly the highlight of Louw's Olympic experience was the South Africa team playing the reigning World Cup champion Japan to a 0-0 draw at Millennium Stadium.
Louw played the entire match for a third consecutive game before being substituted prior to stoppage time. Japan outshot South Africa 16-6 but just 3-2 shots on goal.
South Africa, who earned their first-ever point in Olympic competition, entered the match having already been eliminated from the medal round after losses to Sweden (4-1) and Canada (3-0).
Louw finished the Olympic games by playing a combined 270 minutes while attempting one shot on goal and a foul.
Louw joins Kevin Ellis as the only two Olympians in SFA history. Ellis finished 17th in the men's skeleton at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turbin, Italy.
