SFA Women Struggle Against Lady Lions

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A match that got out to a promising start Friday afternoon ended in disappointment for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team (8-9/3-2 SLC). The Ladyjacks dropped a 5-2 decision to the visiting Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
The doubles team of sophomores Malena Gordo and Julia Lorca picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen Kateryna Bugayenko and Valeria Terentyeva recorded a victory at No. 3 doubles. Leading 1-0, SFA took the momentum in the singles competition but it didn't last.
Southeastern Louisiana rattled off wins at No. 2-6 singles, while the Ladyjacks could only muster a win at the No. 1 spot. Gordo finished the day perfect following up her doubles win with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Nastya Tokareva at No. 1 singles.
The Ladyjacks will look to get back in the win column Saturday when they host Nicholls State. The match against the Colonels is slated to begin at 10 a.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
