NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Northwestern State Lady Demons displayed an explosive offense that was too hot for Stephen F. Austin to handle in a 12-0 five-inning victory over the Ladyjacks Sunday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep.
NSU (31-10, 12-5) scored in all but one inning, including a combined nine runs in the third and fourth innings that put the game away. Kylie Roos picked up the win in the circle by holding SFA (12-27, 5-13) scoreless on four hits over five innings of work. SFA starting pitcher Carlie Thomas dropped to 9-12 by surrendering five earned runs over two innings on six hits. Senior Angela White followed Thomas and gave up six earned runs in two innings before freshman Hannah Welch pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
The Lady Demons were led offensively by Tara McKenney (4-for-4, 4 runs), Brianna Rodriguez (3-for-3, 3 RBI) and Cassandra Barefield (2-for-4, 5 RBI, 1 HR). Barefield hit her second home run (12th overall) in as many days with a three-run blast off Thomas in the third inning that gave NSU a 5-0 lead at the time.
Alisa Hamilton, Cadie Weaver, Bethany Brown and Shanice Love each had a hit for SFA.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action next weekend when they host last-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, May 20.
