FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference, as part of its year-long 50th Anniversary commemoration, announced its All-Decade Women's Basketball Team from the 2000s and the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks lead all teams with six all-decade members, headlined by 2007 Player of the Year Charity Egenti (2006-07).
Four-time all-conference forward LaToya Mills (2002-06) and three-time all-conference guard Nathesia Wright (1999-03) join Egenti along with forwards Chaquita Dilworth (2000-02) and Shawnta Johnson (1998-00) and guard Nikki Carr (2003-08).
Egenti, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, is the last Ladyjack to win the SLC Player of the Year award after a stellar 06-07 campaign. That year Egenti was a first-team all-conference selection by leading SFA in points (16.7 ppg), rebounds (9.7), free throw percentage (.736) and blocks (61). The 61 blocks that season still ranks as the third-best single-season total in school history.
Carr, a native of Hawkins, Texas, was the 2007-08 SLC Defensive Player of the Year and a 07-08 first-team all-conference selection. That season Carr led the Ladyjacks in scoring, rebounds, field goal percentage, assists, steals and minutes played. Carr ranks second in SFA history with 279 steals, seventh in three-pointers made (125) and ninth in assists (420). She was also part of the 2005-06 squad that won the SLC championship with a 14-2 record.
Dilworth, a native of Temple, Texas, was a 2001-02 SLC first-team selection after leading the Ladyjacks in scoring and helping lead SFA to a conference title (19-1 record).
Johnson, a native of Fresno, Calif., was the Ladyjacks leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and rebounder (6.5) for the SLC champion 1999-2000 team. That season Johnson was a SLC first-team selection for a Ladyjacks squad that went 28-4 overall and 17-1 in league play.
Mills, a native of Houston, Texas, helped lead the Ladyjacks to a 2005-06 conference championship by leading the team in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg), field goal percentage (.518) and steals (59). That year she was an SLC first-team selection for the first time in her career. Mills led the Ladyjacks in rebounding all four years at SFA and is eighth all-time in school history with 881 total rebounds. She was also the SLC Freshman of the Year in 2002-03.
Wright, a native of Arlington, Texas, began her SFA career by being named the SLC Freshman of the Year in 1999-00. Wright went on to be a three-time all-conference selection, including a 00-01 first-team selection. Wright led the Ladyjacks in scoring and steals in 2002-03 and is eighth all-time in made three-pointers (97).
In all, 17 Ladyjack student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference All-Decade Teams that stretched throughout three decades, including one Coach of the Decade.
