NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin volleyball head coach Debbie Humphreys announced the hiring of Luke Maloney to the coaching staff on Wednesday.
Maloney replaces Dan Georgalas, who departed for the University of Wyoming, and has spent the last two seasons working at Oregon State University. He spent last season as a volunteer assistant with the Beavers after spending the 2011 season as a graduate student manager.
"We're excited to have Luke as a part of our staff," Humphreys said. "We think he has a great personality that will mesh well with our team, and I'm confident he will be a big asset for us both on the sideline and on the recruiting trail."
Prior to Oregon State, Maloney worked as a coach for NEVILLIZMS in Bellevue, Wash., a private company specializing in individualized volleyball training, under former U.S. Men's National Team Head Coach Bill Neville. He also served as the Jackson High School varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach.
Maloney played libero and outside hitter for George Mason University from 2006 to 2010 where he was named a 2008 EIVA All-East Second Team selection, while anchoring serve reception and defense at libero with 437 career digs. As outside hitter, he contributed to the top-ranked blocking team in the nation, earning 101 total blocks.
Maloney hails from Richmond, Va., and graduated from George Mason in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, earning Dean's List honors as well.
