FOR STARTERS: SFA (12-15, 7-9) takes on PineyWoods rival Sam Houston State this Thursday at 6 p.m. The Bearkats knocked off SFA 64-50 back on Feb. 20 in Huntsville.
LAST TIME OUT: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks punched their ticket to the Southland Conference Tournament with a 48-44 victory over the Northwestern State Lady Demons Saturday afternoon at William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA clinched at least the eighth seed in the eight-team SLC Tournament that is set to begin March 13 in Katy, Texas by holding NSU to just 35 percent shooting for the game.
COVERAGE: Thursday's game will be video streamed and have live stats on sfajacks.com. The game will also be broadcasted on ESPN3.com (here is the direct link). The game will also be on the radio on Q107.7 FM with James Dixon on the call, as well as q1077.com. As always, Twitter updates will be provided throughout at @SFA_WBB.
HISTORY VS. SHSU: The Ladyjacks own the all-time series lead, 62-9, but SHSU has won the last two meetings.
ACADEMIC SHOOTOUT NIGHT: The Ladyjacks will have a table set up at the front gate of the Coliseum where fans can make pledges for a certain amount or on a per point basis for Academic Shootout on Thursday. The funds raised from the Academic Shootout goes to help pay for the Ladyjacks' summer school classes and fifth year student scholarships through the Purple Pride Fast Break Booster Club.
ROBERTS LEADING THE WAY: After just two double-doubles all of last season, sophomore center and reigning SLC Freshman of the Year Porsha Roberts has already registered eight this season. The Waco, Texas native has raised her game during conference action, averaging 15.5 points per game (7th), 7.6 rebounds (4th), .571 FG% (3rd) and 1.6 blocks (1st).
KATY BOUND: After last week’s league results the Ladyjacks now stand alone in seventh place and are still just a half game behind sixth place Central Arkansas. SFA clinched at least the eighth seed in the SLC Tournament with Southeastern Louisiana losing at Sam Houston State.
BENCH PRODUCTION: SFA has done a tremendous job all season of getting production off their bench and are averaging 22.4 points per game compared to just 11.0 from their opponents.
WINNING TIME: With their win over Northwestern State last week, the Ladyjacks improved to 10-3 this season when having the lead with five minutes left in regulation.
AVOIDING THE COLD START: SFA has struggled out of the gate in conference games this season, holding a halftime lead in just three of the 15 games thus far. Overall the Ladyjacks are just 3-13 this season when trailing at the half.
KEEP 'EM UNDER 60: SFA held NSU to just 44 points last Saturday, helping run the Ladyjacks overall record to 8-1 when their opponents score less than 60 points.
