NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team reeled off their third consecutive victory and sixth in their last seven matches with a 2-0 triumph over the Houston Baptist Huskies Friday evening at the SFA Soccer Field.
SFA (8-2-1, 3-1-0) outshot the Huskies (2-8-1, 1-3-0) 16-6 and 9-1 shots on goal while dominating corner kicks, 15-6.
"A great all-around match tonight," SFA head coach Wally Crittenden said. "As a team we were able to manage the tempo of the game in possession while creating some very dangerous chances. Anytime you can create 15 corners, it confirms that you are forcing the other team to make plays. In the end, that is all you can ask. Of course, I would love to see us score on a couple of those but it was great experience for sure. Our organization in the back was great and I thought we handled HBU's dangerous moments very well."
Ladyjacks junior forward Chelsea Raymond scored the game-winning goal in the 19th minute, her team-leading sixth, marking the third straight game the Irving, Texas native put one in the back of the net. The Ladyjacks also got a goal from sophomore midfielder Rachel Owens in the 55th minute, her first of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Lacey Lee improved to 6-1-0 on the season by putting up a flawless first half before turning things over to Morgan Glick (one save) in the final 45 minutes.
SFA will now turn their attention to Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Huntsville.
