This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they conclude their non-conference schedule hosting No. 25 Texas Oct. 25, before traveling to Central Arkansas Oct. 27. The Friday night showdown with the Longhorns will mark the end of the Ladyjacks’ home schedule, as well as serving as senior night for Lacey Lee, Brenda Salazar, Melissa Gaudet and Megan Wasiak.
Game 17: vs. No. 25 Texas (Scouting Report): The Ladyjacks are 0-1-0 all-time against the Texas, with their only meeting coming a 4-0 loss back in 2007. SFA will look to hand the Longhorns their first loss from a Southland Conference team. UT is 3-0-0 all-time verses the SLC, also picking up victories over Nicholls State and Sam Houston State back in 2006.
Game 18: at Central Arkansas (Scouting Report): SFA is 5-1-1 all-time against the Sugar Bears and will ride a two-game winning streak against UCA into Sunday’s match. The Sugar Bears are coming off a 1-0 victory one the road and Baptist that moved UCA back to 4-4-0 (.500) on the season in SLC play
RPI RISE: The Ladyjacks come in at No. 42 in the latest RPI rankings, moving up 20 spots from No. 62 last week.
Best Start In School History: With the win against Nicholls State, the Ladyjacks are off to their best 16-game start in school history (13-2-1). The 2013 SFA squad passed the previous mark of 9-2-1 set back in 2011 with their 2-0 win over McNeese State on Oct. 11.
Top-Ranked Defense: The Ladyjacks have already recorded 12 shutouts this season and are currently tied for second in the nation with a .750 shutout percentage. SFA also ranks fifth in the nation in save percentage (.883), while currently sitting just outside the top five in goals-against average (.420) at sixth.
#SouthlandStrong: The Ladyjacks have won 27 of their last 28 regular season Southland Conference matches dating back to the 2010 season and have gone a combined 25-1-0 over the past two-plus seasons.
A New Era is Born: On Jan. 28, 2013, former Texas A&M assistant Wally Crittenden was named the eighth Stephen F. Austin head soccer coach in school history. Crittenden replaces Tony Amato who stepped down last December to become the head coach at the University of Arizona. Crittenden has spent the past three seasons in College Station assisting a nationally ranked Texas A&M team that has recorded a combined 52-16-6 (.743) record.
Picked To Click: Once again the Ladyjacks were picked to win the 2013 Southland Conference regular-season championship in polls conducted by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. It marks the third consecutive year the Ladyjacks have been selected to finish first in the Southland in either one of the two polls. SFA received 11 first-place votes in both the coaches and SID’s polls to earn a total of 143 points in each poll.
Title Town: The SFA women’s soccer program has brought an unprecedented seven Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 15 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
