NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team continued their winning ways, recording their fifth consecutive victory and 10th shutout of the season in a 2-0 conquest over McNeese State Friday night at the SFA soccer field.
SFA (10-2-1, 5-1-0 SLC) outshot the Cowgirls (5-6-1, 0-6-0 SLC) 17-10, while recording five shots on goal.
"I thought it was a very good game all around," SFA head soccer coach Wally Crittenden said. "There was great intensity and our play was dynamic and sharp. McNeese did some good things and I thought we had very good balance in our ability to absorb their moments. We had great contributions from our entire squad and that is critical as we head down the stretch.
"A great result against a very motivated and organized McNeese team. Now we get back to work tomorrow and begin recovery and preparations for a talented Abilene Christian game on Sunday that features two teams currently tied for first. It should be a great test."
The Ladyjacks’ junior forward Chelsea Raymond scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 10th minute of the match on a feed from Zuri Prince. The goal was Raymond’s team-leading seventh on the season and marks her fourth-straight game to find the back of the net.
Freshman forward Amanda Doyle added an insurance goal in the 40th minute on a put back, her second of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Glick improved to 4-1-1 on the season, recording four saves in the first half, while senior Lacey Lee completed the shutout with two saves of her on the back end.
SFA will next welcome Abilene Christian to Nacogdoches, when the two schools square off for the first time in either program’s history at 1:00 p.m. Sunday Oct. 13.
