NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team reported for camp on Tuesday, just one day before two-a-day practices open up in preparation for the upcoming 2011 season. Fifteen players reported for camp, including seven newcomers.
The Ladyjacks will be issued equipment and take part in a welcome-back dinner on Tuesday before taking part in conditioning tests and opening up practices on Wednesday morning in Shelton Gym.
Included in the crop of newcomers are six true freshmen and one junior college transfer. The group is highlighted by a pair of seniors - all-conference selection Madison Hanlan and Sabrina Burns - in addition to a solid group of sophomores that includes Paige Holland, Katzy Randall and Jill Ivy who all received significant playing time as true freshmen in 2011.
SFA is coming off a 14-18 season in 2011 and a return to the Southland Conference Tournament. The Ladyjacks will open up the 2012 slate on Aug. 24 at the UT Arlington Tournament against UT-Pan American, who is coached by former Ladyjack assistant Brian Yale.
Nine of SFA's first 10 matches of the season are on the road with the home opener slated for Aug. 28 at Shelton Gym vs ULM. SFA will host the Chilly Fillmore's Invitational on Sept. 14-15, opening with a match vs Northwestern State, which will also double as the opener of Southland Conference play.
