FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior libero Madison Hanlan was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week after conference officials announced the selection on Monday afternoon.
Hanlan moved into second all-time in digs at SFA on Saturday and averaged 5.36 digs per set in helping the Ladyjacks to a 3-0 weekend mark and the tournament championship at the UTA/Hilton Invitational. The Arlington native made the all-tournament team in her return to her hometown and now needs 364 more digs to join Stephanie Figgers as just the second Ladyjack in history to total 2,000 digs for a career.
She posted 27 digs in a five-set win over UTPA to open up the season and followed that up with 14 more on Saturday morning in a sweep of Savannah State. Hanlan closed out the weekend with an 18-dig outing in a sweep of former conference foe UT Arlington on Saturday evening.
This is the fourth time in Hanlan's career she has claimed the league's weekly honor after winning it twice as a freshman and once as a junior.
Hanlan and the Ladyjacks will continue the season on Tuesday when they host ULM at Shelton Gym at 6:30 p.m.
