FORT WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team bounced back from a tough loss against Texas Tech with a gutty 2-0 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs Sunday afternoon at a rainy Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Complex.
SFA (3-1) scored both of their goals late in the second half, with the game-winner coming off the foot of sophomore forward Zuri Prince. In the 78th minute of the match, senior midfielder Kylie Louw recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the season on Prince's blast from the top of the 18-yard box.
Then in the final minute, sophomore forward Chelsea Raymond put the game away with her team-leading third goal of the year on another shot from the top of the box.
"We are very pleased with the result today," SFA head coach Tony Amato said. "We worked through some tough conditions with multiple weather delays and found it difficult to get in an attacking rhythm for a good portion of the game. I thought we improved our play in the final 20 minutes, which led to us scoring two good goals."
The Ladyjacks' defense was solid yet again, allowing just two TCU shots on goal and nine shots overall. SFA goalkeeper Lacey Lee moved her mark to 2-1 on the year and collected two saves in her second shutout of the season.
SFA outshot TCU 16-9 and 6-2 SOG. The Ladyjacks also won the corner kicks battle 9-5. The beginning of the game was actually delayed for 30 minutes due to a substantial amount of rain.
All in all it was a weekend with a lot of positive for Amato and his squad against higher-caliber competition on the road, which will continue next Friday when the Ladyjacks travel to Baton Rouge, LA to face LSU.
"Overall we got better as a team this weekend," Amato said. "I'm excited about this group we have."
The Ladyjacks will face those Tigers (1-1-1) Friday, Aug. 31 followed by yet another road contest on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m.
