NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team opens the 2012 season ranked 51st in the nation according to the initial rankings by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
"It is always great to get recognized in the preseason polls," SFA head coach Tony Amato said. "We like to have high expectations and seeing us in the Top-64 shows that people believe we are capable of having a successful season. Now we will work to meet these expectations and be in the polls at the end of the season."
Last season the Ladyjacks finished 15-3-1 en route to their sixth Southland Conference regular season title and advanced all the way to the SLC Tournament Championship before falling to Texas State, 1-0.
SFA returns 10 starters from last year's squad and 15 letterwinners, including the Southland Conference Player of the Year Kylie Louw.
The Tournament 64 National Ranking is a one-of-a-kind effort to rank the top women's college soccer teams and also project the post-season NCAA Tournament field, including all of the automatic qualifiers from 30 eligible Division I conferences. The ranking is updated every Monday morning through the season.
The Ladyjacks will open the 2012 season this Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. when they host the Houston Cougars at the SFA Soccer Field.
