NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite another solid pitching performance, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were unable to deliver at the plate with runners in scoring position in a 2-0 loss in the first of two games this weekend against UT-Arlington.
SFA (8-21, 1-6) left nine runners on base, including the tying runs at third and second when Elizabeth Arana flew out to right field to end the game. Over the final three innings the Ladyjacks left a total of seven runners on base, which included runners at third and second base on two occassions.
The Mavericks (12-15, 2-3) got a complete game shutout from Teri Lyles, who pitched seven innings while allowing six hits, no runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.
Angela White (4-10) was the hard-luck loser for SFA, surrendering seven hits and just two earned runs, both of which came in the pivotal fourth inning. Both runs came on back-to-back RBI knocks from Lyles and Meagan Michele respectively.
Bethany Brown led SFA with two hits while Amber Price, Arana, Cadie Weaver and Faith Hoisager had one each.
The Ladyjacks and Mavericks will be back at it tomorrow at 1 p.m. from the SFA Softball Field.
