
Demons Get First Win Over Ladyjacks

NATCHITOCHES, La. - An energized Northwestern State Demons squad got 14 kills from Stacy DiFrancesco and hit .243 on senior night in registering its first-ever win over Stephen F. Austin, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-20) on Friday at Prather Coliseum.
SFA (19-10, 9-6 SLC) had won the previous 43 matches between the schools dating back to 1988, but the Demons (19-8, 11-4 SLC) managed to maintain their hold on third place in the Southland Conference in what has turned into their best season in the history of the program.
No Ladyjack finished in double figure kills, with Jill Ivy's seven scores leading the way. Jacque Allen had six kills and four blocks, and OJ Olson led the team with 11 digs. SFA hit just .078 for the match and finished with just 25 assists in the three sets, with 19 coming from Paige Holland.
Northwestern State hit .343 with 17 scores in the first set, while SFA hit just .000 in an eight-point Demon win. One set later the Ladyjacks had a chance to square the match, staying close throughout the set and fighting off a set-point try at 24-23 on a kill from Ivy before the Demons scratched out the final two points for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Demons then shut the door in the third set, committing just three errors on 35 team swings to hit .286, rolling to a five-point win.
SFA will next come home for one final match at Shelton Gym, vs Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ladyjacks will honor their two seniors, Madison Hanlan and Sabrina Burns in a ceremony before the match.
