GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team (4-2-1) hosts the winless Jackson State Lady Tigers (0-5-0) in Nacogdoches this Friday at 5 p.m. at the SFA Soccer Complex.
Last Week: In one of the most heated and emotional games of the young season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 3-2 Friday evening at the SFA Soccer Complex. The win marked the first time in school history that SFA (4-2-1) came out victorious against TCU (4-4-0) in now seven opportunities. Junior midfielder Laura Sadler scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute for SFA, at the time increasing the Ladyjacks lead to 3-1 before TCU would add a late goal in the 81st minute. Sadler's goal, her second of the season and the 14th of her career, came off a cross from junior Kylie Louw for her team-leading fifth assist of the year.
Series History: SFA and Jackson State will meet Friday for the first time since the 2000 season when the Lady Tigers defeated the Ladyjacks 3-0 in Jackson, Mississippi. The only other time the two schools met was in 1998 when Jackson State also won 1-0. The Lady Tigers: The Lady Tigers have struggled in 2011, having yet to score a goal while dropping their first five contests. Three of Jackson State's losses have been of the 1-0 variety, including their most recent loss at Jacksonville State. Coverage: A live stream of Friday's game will be available online via SFA All-Access. Live stats will be provided via GameTracker.
NEWS AND NOTES
WRAPPING UP NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: Friday's match versus Jackson State will be the final non-conference game of the season for SFA as they will open up Southland Conference action the following weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) at UTSA and Texas State, respectively.
DEFENSE RESTORED: The Ladyjacks returned two key contributors to the lineup last Friday with the return of defenders Jordan King and Melissa Gaudet. Both came off the bench to play a pivotal role in helping lead SFA to a win over TCU.
AMATO CHASING 100: SFA head coach Tony Amato currently sits with a 99-44-14 record, only one shy of reaching the century mark. Amato led Rollins College to an 82-37-11 mark in seven seasons before coming to SFA where he has tallied a record of 17-7-3 over the past two years.
HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE: SFA now holds an all-time record of 83-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 52-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 29-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
NINE WINS: SFA finished the 2010 season with a 13-5-2 overall record. This marked the eighth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program's seventh straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
TITLE TOWN: The SFA women's soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
