PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Not unexpected after its first loss of the season, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks dropped a couple of notches in the most recent top-25 poll. The Lumberjacks fell three spots to No. 19 in the Sports Network Top-25 poll, and one spot to 13th in the FCS Coaches Poll. The Lumberjacks dropped an 11-point decision to No. 4 Northern Iowa Saturday evening at Homer Bryce Stadium.
Despite the setback, SFA received respect from the pollsters following their loss to a top-five program. While SFA fell no further than three places in the TSN poll, the Panthers were bumped to No. 2 in both polls following their road victory.
The loss is made even more heartbreaking by the fact that SFA trailed by only four points, 20-16, with less than six minutes remaining in the third despite four turnovers and nine penalties for 91 yards.
The Lumberjacks must quickly put the loss behind them as a date with Baylor looms on the horizon. The Bears, and Heisman candidate, Robert Griffin, enter Saturday's contest as the 19th-ranked team at the FBS level.
