NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjacks got 12 kills from MC Bottles in the finale of the Ladyjack Invitational, but Northern Illinois was too much as the Huskies took a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-13) on Saturday at Shelton Gym.
NIU (10-3) hit .352 for the match, the highest mark by a Ladyjack opponent this season in handing SFA (6-5) its third consecutive defeat. The Ladyjacks, coming off a high-energy match less than 24 hours before, were unable to sustain its offense for extended amounts of time and only managed a .162 hitting percentage of the night.
Paige Holland, who was named to the all-tournament team, continued her solid play with 39 assists and Melissa Miksch saw extended time on the outside, finishing with eight kills and eight digs. Allison Gideon also saw extended court time and responded with a solid offensive night, scoring eight times without a misfire on 19 swings.
The Huskies were led by a pair of hitters, Mary Kursich and Lauren Wicinski, each with 13 kills apiece.
SFA was not able to hold the Huskies below .273 hitting in any of the four sets, including the final set when NIU held a .419 mark for the set.
The Ladyjacks are next in action on Friday when they open up conference play in the opener of the Chilly Fillmore's SFA Invitational at Shelton Gym.
