FRISCO, Texas - Senior middle blocker MC Bottles has been named to the preseason all-Southland Conference first team and the Ladyjack volleyball team was picked both seventh and eighth in a pair of preseason polls conducted by the league's coaches and sports information directors released Tuesday by league officials.
The Ladyjacks are looking to rebound from an 12-19 season in 2010 and were picked seventh in the league in the coaches' poll with 59 points, while two-time defending league champion Central Arkansas was chosen as the favorite with five first-place votes.
In the SID poll, reigning SLC Tournament champion UTSA was chosen as the favorite, despite having one less first-place vote than the Sugar Bears. SFA was chosen eighth in the SID poll, coming in ahead of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northwestern State, Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana in both counts.
As for Bottles, she was an automatic preseason all-SLC selection after being named to the all-league second team as a junior in 2010. The 6-0 senior led the team with 3.01 kills per set and a .271 attack percentage last season. She has earned all-SLC honors in each of her first three seasons as a Ladyjack.
SFA opens the 2011 season on the road on Aug. 26 at the Georgia Southern Tournament in Statesboro, Ga., against Georgia Southern. The Ladyjacks will open up the home slate at Shelton Gym on Sept. 9 when they host Texas A&M in the first game of the Ladyjack Invitational.
