
Date Set for Rivalry Weekend Golf Tournament

HOUSTON - Fans and alumni from Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State are invited to register for the inaugural Battle of the Piney Woods Golf Tournament. The tournament will be played at Wildcat Golf Club Friday, Oct. 7, the day before the game, and will begin with a shotgun start at 2:00 p.m. CT.
The registration fee is $600 for a foursome, which includes green fees, carts, school-specific goodie bags, drinks on the course as well as lunch and dinner. Players will also have access to an exclusive silent auction featuring Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State memorabilia, game experiences and other prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.
All proceeds from the tournament will be split between the two schools, and will go to fund scholarships at each institution.
The Battle of the Piney Woods presented by YP.com is the annual rivalry football game between Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State played at Houston's Reliant Stadium. Stephen F. Austin defeated Sam Houston State 31-28 last season before a crowd of 24,685. The crowd was the largest in the 85-year history of the rivalry and was the largest against a Football Championship Subdivision institution in both schools' histories.
The Battle of the Piney Woods dates back to 1923, making it the second oldest college football rivalry in the state of Texas. Sam Houston State holds a 48-35-2 edge in the series, although Stephen F. Austin has won the last two meetings.
