NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2011 Stephen F. Austin Athletics Hall of Fame class consists of two former Ladyjack and two Lumberjack athletes who guided their respective teams to a combined seven top-25 national rankings, six NCAA Championship appearances, six Southland Conference regular-season titles, four conference tournament titles, three top-10 national rankings and earned three All-America honors. The 2011 class consists of Lori Davis (women's basketball), Kevin Ellis (track and field), Lee Kirk (football) and Stacey Moczygemba (soccer).
One of the all-time great Ladyjack basketball players, Davis guided SFA to four SLC regular-season and tournament titles. The Ladyjacks advanced to the NCAA Championships all for seasons, and never lost a first-round game during her four years on campus. The Ladyjacks never lost more than five games in a season, and finished each year ranked among the nation's top 25 including top-10 finishes in 1990 and 1992.
Davis made a name for herself at the free throw line where she set the single-game school record, and is still listed second all-time in school history in free throws made. A member of the Ladyjacks' Hall of Honor, Davis was a three-time all-conference selection who garnered first-team honors in 1991. She remains the only Ladyjack to ever be named SLC Newcomer of the Year.
The Ladyjacks compiled a 110-16 (.837) overall record during Davis' four years on campus. That record also included a 62-2 (.969) mark in conference games.
"Lori was a tough inside player for the basketball team who became one of the nation's best," said Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "She had a prolific career leading SFA to national prominence in the 90's."
Ellis graduated from SFA as one of the most decorated athletes in school history, and the program's all-time best hurdler. A two-time All-American, he became the first Lumberjack to earn All-America honors during an indoor season.
Ellis won three SLC individual titles during his career in Nacogdoches. He was a two-time 110-meter hurdle champion, and won the 1995 SLC 55-meter hurdle title, and is the holder of the school's 55-meter hurdle title.
"Kevin was an amazing athlete and performer on our track team," said Hill. "He still holds several school records and is regarded by many to be one of the best hurdlers in Southland Conference history. He changed sports after college and became an Olympic performer in skeleton sledding proving how great an athlete he really was."
Kirk guided the Lumberjacks to a 25-9-2 (.722) record in his final three seasons on campus, which included three top-25 finishes. The 'Jacks also posted a 13-4-1 (.750) conference record during that stretch. A 1995 first-team All-America, Kirk guided SFA to the playoffs in 1993 and 1995. During the 1995 season SFA advanced to the NCAA I-AA semifinals, and finished ranked among the nation's top 10. The 'Jacks were ranked in 40 consecutive polls over a three-year stretch. A three-time All-SLC selection, Kirk closed out his career earning first-team honors.
The 'Jacks posted an 11-2 overall record in 1995, which set a school record for winning percentage and still stands as the second-best single-season win total in school history. It is also one of four double-figure win totals in program history.
"No offensive lineman in SFA history played with as much intensity and determination as Lee Kirk," said Hill. "He was a major reason for SFA football resurgence in the mid 90s when SFA offensive units were featuring top ranked running games. He would have to be one of the greatest at his position in SFA football history."
Moczygemba was a two-time first-team All-SLC selection who guided SFA to its first two conference titles in program history. A three-time SLC all-tournament team selection, Moczygemba guided the Ladyjacks to a 15-4-7 (.712) all-time conference record during her four years on campus. She is still one of the program's all-time leaders in assists, holding the 10th-best career mark and the school's fifth-best single-season mark.
"Stacey was our first true soccer star at SFA," said Hill. "Our soccer program was successful from its earliest start in the Southland Conference because of the play of Stacey who really set the tone for future Ladyjacks."
Men selected to the SFA Hall of Fame are chosen by the SFA Lettermen's Association. The female inductions into the Hall of Fame are chosen by a special committee of coaches, administrators and former athletes.
