NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ladyjack head coach Brandon Schneider has announced on Monday the signing of Western Texas College's Wykeia Sanders, giving SFA seven signees for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
A 6-3, 161-pound post originally from Minden, La., Sanders spent a pair of years at WTC and averaged 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds as a sophomore for the Lady Westerners as a sophomore in 2010-11. She also led the league in field-goal percentage with a .553 clip, and knocked down nearly 72 percent of her free throws in earning NJCAA All-Region V honors.
"Wykeia is an athletic post player who is very crafty on the low block. She also has the ability to play in the high post areas and impact the game defensively," Schneider said. "She adds much needed depth to our frontline and we are excited to have her join the Ladyjack family."
Sanders was also a standout in her prep days at Minden High School, earning all-district honors on three occasions, as well as being named honorable mention all-state as a senior in 2008-09. Her efforts in the classroom stand out as well, as she earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named to the President's List at WTC, and was an honor roll student during her high school days.
The addition of Sanders adds another piece to SFA's incoming class that was already ranked in the nation's top 40 recruiting classes of the year by Premier Basketball Report following the signing of five players in the fall.
