NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin held its commencement ceremonies for the 2011 spring semester Saturday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. It was a memorable one for the SFA athletics department graduating a record number of athletes, trainers and managers.
Among the 52 graduates, seven graduated with honors and 13 received their masters degrees. The football team and the men's and women's track and field team led way. The Lumberjack football team graduated eight athletes, while the track and field teams had a total of nine graduates. SFA also graduated nine student trainers Saturday. The Ladyjack basketball team graduated six, while the baseball and softball teams each had three representatives walk. Men's golf and volleyball each had two graduates, while tennis, men's basketball and women's golf each had a individual receive a diploma.
These individuals were not only successful in the classroom, but helped record one of the most successful stretches in SFA athletics history. SFA won Southland Conference titles in football, men's and women's basketball, softball, women's cross country, men's and women's track and field and volleyball while these athletes were in Nacogdoches, and helped SFA win its first SLC Commissioner's Cup last season. SFA is in contention for another Commissioner's Cup this season.
