
SFA Records 11 Titles at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team posted another strong showing Friday evening at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet hosted by Rice. SFA brought home eight individual and three relay titles from the meet.
Freshman Cass Brown got things started with his time of 47.11 to win the men's 400-meter dash. Junior Nick McCloud followed that up with a time of 13.88 in the men's 110-meter hurdles. McCloud just missed his second individual title in the 200 meters when he finished second with a time of 21.38.
The team of freshmen Hampton Hawkins, Torin Crowder and Cass Brown and senior Donavon Sammons combined to clock a 3:12.35 to win the 1,600-meter relay. The Ladyjacks added to SFA strength in the relays winning the 400-meter (46.48) and 1,600-meter (3:45.53) relays.
Junior Jon Arthur had a strong outing for the 'Jacks in the throws events, winning two titles. His first victory came in the shot put where he recorded a throw of 59-8.25. He followed that up with a throw of 183-5 to win the hammer throw. Arthur's win in the hammer throw led an SFA sweep of the top three spots in the event. Senior Adam Wolfe closed out the team's strong outing in the throws with his victory in the javelin (230-10) to set a new school record.
In addition to their two relay victories, the Ladyjacks also received track titles from Mary Dickerson (54.96) in the 400-meter dash, and Chelsea Stephen (14.02) in the 100-meter hurdles. Senior Kaitlyn Andrews closed out the Ladyjacks' title haul with her throw of 49-9.75 to win the women's shot put.
