NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ladyjack head coach Brandon Schneider has announced the signing of Waco La Vega High School prepster Porsha Roberts on Tuesday, making her the sixth incoming freshman signee for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Roberts averaged 19.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and five blocks per game for the Lady Pirates as a senior in 2010-11, leading LVHS to a bi-district championship in the Class 3A playoffs. Her efforts earned her the District 19-3A MVP honors, and nods for both TABC all-region and all-state.
She is scheduled to play in the upcoming Texas Sports Hall of Fame Game on May 7th at the Ferrell Center in her home town of Waco, as well as the TABC all-star game slated for May 18th in San Antonio.
"Porsha has the ability to impact our program at both the 4 and 5 positions immediately," Schneider said. "She is a difference maker defensively. She consistently blocks and alters shots and is a tremendous paint presence. She also runs the floor extremely well, possesses a versatile offensive game and is an outstanding rebounder."
According to ESPN.com recruiting services, the 6-2 Roberts is the highest ranked signee of the incoming class and is rated as the No. 42 forward in the nation, adding much needed size and athleticism to a roster that lost a seven-member senior class following the 2010-11 season.
Not just a premier hoopster, Roberts was also a first team all-District 19-3A selection for the Lady Pirate volleyball team as a senior.
The addition of Roberts adds another big piece to SFA's incoming class that was already ranked in the nation's top 40 recruiting classes of the year by Premier Basketball Report following the signing of five players in the fall.
