FRISCO, Texas - Junior guard Tammara Marion was named to the all-Southland Conference second team, while senior forward Jordan Ford earned an honorable mention nod in an announcement by league officials Monday morning.
A third team all-SLC selection last year as a sophomore, Marion led the Ladyjacks and was fourth in the league averaging 16 points per game for the season along with 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists. A 36-percent three-point shooter, the junior was sixth in that category in the league and finished second with an 87.6 free-throw percentage.
She recently surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for her career and currently sits second all-time at SFA with 171 three-point makes and needs just seven more to tie Dayna Reed's career record of 178, but her 70 made triples this season has already established a new Ladyjack single-season mark. Marion has scored in double figures in 26 of 29 games this season and closed out the year strong, averaging 19.3 points per game in the final six contests of the season, four of which were Ladyjack wins.
Meanwhile, Ford earned her first postseason honors of her career after four-years of service in which she became the 24th Ladyjack to join the 1,000-point club. She has started all 29 games for SFA this season and enters this week's Southland Conference Tournament averaging career bests with 9.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
The senior has gone over 20 points three times this season, as well as pulling down at least 10 boards on three occasions, and had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds in a conference road win over UT-Arlington.
Marion, Ford and the rest of the Ladyjacks will open up the Southland Conference Tournament on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. as the No. 6 seed against No. 3 Central Arkansas at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The winner of that game will move on to the semifinals to take on either No. 2 Lamar, or No. 7 Northwestern State.
